Marni joined the Friends team in late 2024 to help us dive into phone banking and will continue leading this effort in 2025! A phenomenal volunteer with extensive experience in phone banking and nonprofit fundraising, Marni trained our staff and volunteers to connect directly with supporters. After developing a phone script and providing hands-on guidance, Marni spearheaded hundreds of calls, strengthening our outreach and donor relationships.
In addition to her skilled volunteerism and expertise, Marni’s sense of humor and bright spirit light up our office. Her positivity is infectious, and her dedication inspires everyone around her. Marni is a true community force, and the San Juan Islands are lucky to have her!

“My partner and I recently moved to the island and have fallen in love with its beauty. Living on the Salish Sea, surrounded by nature, wildlife, and history, feels like an honor. I discovered Friends of the San Juans through Kath and immediately felt a connection between the organization’s mission and my own values.
I’ve always strived to understand my place in the natural world and how I fit as a human. Being here, among the open waters and sea life, has deepened my awareness of that connection. For me, it’s essential to do everything we can to help the islands, ecosystems, and animals thrive.
Friends’ work stands out because they’re protecting our beaches, land, ocean, and wildlife. Simply put, I want to be part of something so good for our planet. When I think about the work Friends is doing and envision the Islands in 50 years, I see more orcas, clean water, pristine beaches, protected shorelines, and a thriving ecosystem. I hope my small contribution helps us get there.”
