Friends of the San Juans was founded in 1979 to support San Juan County’s efforts to manage growth and protect natural environments. Since then, Friends’ activities have expanded to include marine research and habitat restoration; shoreline stewardship and conservation; land use and environmental compliance; and endangered species protection.

We chose to live on the westside of San Juan Island because of its natural beauty, and we want to preserve it for future generations. That’s where the Friends of the San Juans come in. Since their inception, they have been the guardians of the Salish Sea and this place we call home.
