As part of a beautiful, complex, and dynamic marine ecosystem supporting salmon, seabirds, whales, and humans, you can join a community beach walk this July on Orcas or Lopez Island! Learn about the shoreline features that make up the over 400 miles of shoreline in San Juan County, from habitat to geology, vegetation to drainage, and more. Join Friends’ staff, an expert coastal geologist from Herrera Environmental, and San Juan County’s Environmental Stewardship Department for an afternoon of exploration, including ongoing restoration efforts and management techniques that protect and maintain crucial shoreline ecosystems. Leave with practical tips for managing and protecting shorelines for future generations.

Through our Shore Friendly program, Friends of the San Juans offers free site visits and technical assistance to waterfront property owners in San Juan County so you can become confident protectors of your shoreline.
