Ayn Gailey

Lead Island Ambassador, Orcas Island
she/her/hers

Ayn has a Master’s degree in Education & Social Policy from Harvard University, a BA in Psychology, and a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA. However, she is more proud of being known as the Queen of Collaboration and helping secure grants, donations, and levies for San Juan Island schools and nonprofits.

Ayn began life with a love of the sea on the island of Taiwan. That love grew as she spent her teen years swimming in the Aegean Sea in Izmir, Turkey, then spending years soothed by the Pacific Ocean in southern California before landing on Orcas Island, where she feels most connected to the Salish Sea, along with her husband, author Samuel W. Gailey, and her teen daughter, the creator of WondermintKids.com. Ayn is honored to be part of the team helping protect the Salish Sea and our island forests for future generations.

back to …

From the first time we visited the islands, we were awe-struck by the natural beauty of this majestic setting: towering conifers, green meadows, beautiful lakes, forested mountains, all surrounded by the sound! Like any beautiful location, this magical environment could be “loved to death”, which is why it is so important that Friends of the San Juans is there to help us protect what we all love.
