Marine Protection and Policy Director Lovel Pratt wins Conservation Partnership Award

Lovel Pratt, Marine Protection and Policy Director at Friends, won the first Conservation Partnership Award given by our partner organization, Evergreen Islands! This award recognizes an individual currently working in environmental advocacy, who embodies the importance of partnerships and our collective voice. Evergreen Islands and Friends recognize that together, we expand our effectiveness.

This achievement recognizes Lovel’s recent contributions to Evergreen Islands and the broader environmental network, including:

  • Generous collaboration with the Evergreen Islands’ Board over the years
  • Studying increases in vessel traffic impacts, expanding terminals, and faulty environmental reviews
  • Providing opportunities to weigh in on regulations to prevent oil spills and sign on to coalition letters protecting the marine environment
  • Close work with Evergreen Islands’ past Board President, Tom Glade on vessel monitoring
  • Speaking at last year’s Evergreen Islands Annual Meeting
  • Most recently, leading the environmental coalition appealing Whatcom County’s decision on AltaGas’s Cherry Point facility expansion

Lovel embodies the collaborative spirit necessary to tackle complex environmental issues. Over the years, she has built strong relationships with Evergreen Islands and a broad network of conservation organizations, forging the coalitions needed to stand up to major industry players. Together, these partnerships amplify our collective voice, add specialized expertise, and bring critical resources to the table. Lovel is a skilled convener who effectively shepherds the process from start to finish, while also contributing her own considerable expertise and credibility. Congratulations, Lovel!

“Lovel is exactly the kind of leader conservation needs — someone who brings people together, builds trust across organizations, and knows how to move a coalition forward. Her ability to convene diverse partners while contributing her own deep expertise has made a real difference for our region. It is an honor to recognize her with this award.” — Marlene Finley, Board President of Evergreen Islands
