Islanders founded Friends of the San Juans in 1979 to protect the islands’ beauty, character, and wildness. Our early victories—like helping the County adopt its first Comprehensive Plan and stopping large-scale development near Lime Kiln State Park—set the course for decades of community-driven protection across the islands and Salish Sea.

Friends of the San Juans is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes. We are a nonpartisan organization and do not engage in political endorsements. We do not speak to individual candidates’ qualifications. Friends of the San Juans does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in our programs or activities.
