Take Action Now to Protect SEPA!

Here in Washington, the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) is a foundational tool that provides important information and opportunities for public input on projects that impact the environment. SEPA is the law that ensures that projects are evaluated and the public can have a say in the review and assessment of the project. SEPA also provides information to make smart decisions on projects, big and small.

Over the years, powerful forces like the fossil fuel industry have tried to chip away how SEPA works to develop information and engage the public. Now, industry allies are setting the table to weaken the law from providing complete information on the impacts of a project.

Click here to urge your legislators to stand strong and reject attempts to undermine SEPA.

Earlier this session, a bill was proposed to force the state to create a “one size fits all” approach to determining how greenhouse gases should be analyzed under SEPA. That bill stalled, but there are now efforts to revive some of those same ideas by requiring the state to create a work group to weaken the law.

Whether you live along a rail line or a shoreline, we are all impacted by decisions to bring in more oil, coal, and gas into our region. And, fortunately we have laws in place that require a thorough and fair evaluation of those proposals. Now, is the time to make sure these laws stay strong. Click here and urge state leaders to reject efforts to weaken SEPA.

Thank you for your voice and support!

I want the beach to be able to be here for my grandchildren… for my nieces, nephews, and godchildren. That’s when we made the decision to contact Friends of the San Juans.
